IHL trustee Hooper heads Valley’s presidential search

Institutes of Higher Learning board trustee Shane Hooper of Tupelo will lead the committee seeking a new president for Mississippi Valley State University. Board president C.D. Smith made the announcement Thursday. All board trustees will serve as members of the search committee. “I look forward to leading the search for the next president of Mississippi Valley State University,” said Hooper. “I look forward to hearing from the Valley family about their thoughts on the future of the university.”

Lamar appointed to IHL seat

Gov. Phil Bryant appoints retired state Supreme Court Justice Ann Lamar to fill a vacancy on the Board of Trustees for the Institutions of Higher Learning. Gov. Bryant made the announcement in a Facebook post Wednesday morning:

“I have appointed the Honorable Ann Lamar, retired Justice of the Supreme Court of Mississippi, to the IHL Board of Trustees. Her term will begin immediately and run through 2021.” “I look forward to working with Justice Lamar to advance the university system and the state,” said Dr. Glenn Boyce, Commissioner of Higher Education. “She brings a wealth of knowledge and many years of experience weighing decisions with thoughtful deliberation and careful consideration that will serve the Board well.”

IHL seeks nominations for JSU president search committee

The Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning has set a Jan. 17 deadline for nominations for the search advisory committee for a new Jackson State University president. Last October, former university President Carolyn Meyers resigned. On Nov. 7, former U.S. Secretary of Education, Dr. Rod Paige, was named interim president.

Report: IHL trustee targeted in murder plot

A state college board member may have been the target of a murder plot, WDAM reports. Three men were arrested in Hattiesburg over the weekend and changed with conspiracy to commit murder. WDAM reported today that the mark of the alleged plot was Thomas Duff of Columbia. Duff has been an Institutes of Higher Learning commissioner since May 2015 and is an owner of a capital-investment firm that operates several businesses. Attempts to reach Duff at one of his businesses and home were unsuccessful.
