JACKSON – Mississippi Today is pleased to announce acclaimed editorial cartoonist and media personality Marshall Ramsey as Editor-at-Large.
Ramsey will join the nonpartisan, nonprofit news and media company on January 2, 2019, after twenty-two years as an editorial cartoonist for the Clarion Ledger.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Marshall Ramsey to Mississippi Today,” said founder Andy Lack. “MississippiToday.org will be the new home for his renowned cartoons and sharp editorial insights. But more than that, Marshall is also going to travel to every corner of Mississippi to pursue our mission – inspiring civic engagement – by convening readers around issues that matter to Mississippians. We’re proud to add a journalist of Marshall’s experience and caliber to our team.”
Ramsey is a two-time Pulitzer Finalist (2002 and 2006). His editorial cartoons are nationally syndicated by Creators Syndicate and have appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, USA Today and The (Jackson, Miss.) Clarion-Ledger. He has appeared on CNN and FOX News and is the author of several successful books, including three cartoon collections, two short story collections and a children’s book, “Banjo’s Dream.”
“Joining Mississippi Today is a great opportunity to work with an outstanding team telling Mississippi’s best stories,” said Ramsey. “And I get a chance to travel the state I love – that’s a bonus. I’m eager to continue creating editorial cartoons and interviewing our state’s most interesting newsmakers. I was recently asked to define Mississippi in one word and I said ‘stories’ – I look forward to telling them.”
Ramsey is closely followed by an enormous fan base on social media. His recent tribute to the late President George H.W. Bush went viral, reaching millions and was noted by the Bush family as one of the most touching homages to the family patriarch.
Ramsey is also the host of the weekly statewide radio program, “Now You’re Talking with Marshall Ramsey” and the television program “Conversations on Mississippi Public Broadcasting.” He is a 2012 recipient of the Governor’s Initiative for Volunteer Excellence (GIVE) Award, and now serves as emcee of the annual event.
