Prior to that, she was a reporter for The Clarion-Ledger covering education and state government. Kate became Mississippi Today’s first community health editor in January 2022. She won awards for her investigative work, including stories about the state’s campaign finance laws and prison system. She was a news producer at MassLive in Springfield, Mass., after graduating from Louisiana State University’s Manship School of Mass Communications with a master’s degree in communications.

“The health beat touches everything in a person’s life ranging from birth to death. The disparities and lack of access to health care in Mississippi make good reporting on this topic even more vital. I’m thrilled to lead a team that will shine a light on how the health care system in this state is, and is not, working.”
