Mississippi has received billions of dollars in federal money — an historic, once-in-a-lifetime influx of cash that can be used to address generational problems our state has long faced. As elected officials at every level of government are deciding how that money should be spent, Mississippi Today this week is formally launching “Follow the Money,” a long-term, newsroom-wide project that will closely track that spending and hold leaders accountable.
Mississippi has a water problem. Many leaders and residents want elected officials to address it with its historic influx of federal funding.
Mississippians who are eligible for the recent student debt relief will be on the hook for up to $1,000 in additional state income taxes next year.
