Politics and Government Editor at Mississippi Today

What I Cover

I oversee and contribute reporting on the Mississippi Legislature, politics, state government, elections and business. My work focuses on how public policy, spending, and taxation affect the daily lives of Mississippians. I want to see my native state prosper, and I bring more than 30 years of experience covering Mississippi government and politics — from city hall to the U.S. Capitol.

My Background

I joined Mississippi Today in June 2020 after decades of political and investigative reporting across Mississippi and beyond. At The Clarion Ledger, I served as politics and investigations editor and columnist. At the Sun Herald, I was politics editor, Capitol Bureau chief, columnist, investigations editor, and previously served as assistant city editor, as well as a local government reporter. I also reported for The Hattiesburg American, covering city hall, county government, and police and crime. Early in my career, I was executive editor and managing editor of The King Times News in North Carolina, overseeing three weekly papers in the suburbs of Winston-Salem. I hold a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Southern Mississippi. I was born in Jackson, Mississippi, and now live in Canton, Mississippi.
