Mississippi was one of several states that Russian groups targeted with Facebook advertisements during the 2016 presidential election, according to an NBC News report.

The Facebook ads, believed to be tied to Russia’s efforts to interfere with the 2016 presidential election, were also targeted in key battleground states like Michigan and Wisconsin, according to NBC sources.

But Republican strongholds like Mississippi, Alabama and Texas were also targeted.
