Dr. Jerryl Briggs, interim president of Mississippi Valley State University

Editor’s note: A previous version of this story and its headline inaccurately stated that Dr. Briggs was appointed interim president.

Dr. Jerryl Briggs was named acting president of Mississippi Valley State University by the Board of Trustees of the Institutes of Higher Learning on Thursday. Briggs currently serves as executive vice president and chief operating officer at the university in Itta Bena.

Briggs succeeds Dr. William Bynum at Valley. Bynum was selected as the new president of Jackson State University by the board on May 31. Bynum’s official start date at Jackson State is July 1.
