The announcement is music to the ears of residents around Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport. On Wednesday, U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao announced the airport will receive $3.4 million for noise mitigation.
According to a release, the money will pay for a soundproofing project that includes “residential sound insulation and easement acquisition to comply with the airport’s approved noise compatibility program.”
This is part of $527.8 million in infrastructure grants to 584 airports across the United States as part of the Federal Aviation Agency’s Airport Improvement Program.
