Topping news in the Mississippi this week:
• EdBuild, the education consulting firm hired to evaluate Mississippi public school funding, presented the Legislature’s Joint Education Committee with its recommendations on Monday.
• In Tuesday’s State of the State address, Gov. Phil Bryant called for shrinking state government — including getting rid of some state agencies — and rewriting the state’s education funding formula.
• Also on Tuesday, Attorney General Jim Hood announced that his office is suing Goggle for mining student data. That same day, a bill that would have limited Hood’s power narrowly failed in a legislative vote.
