The news was all good where William Winter was concerned Sunday evening. He continues to improve and doctors at University of Mississippi Medical Center still expect a full recovery from the scary fall he had Saturday morning.

Close friend Dick Molpus, speaking for the Winter family: “The Winter family is profoundly touched by the outpouring of support from friends and well-wishers. He is progressing well. His tests are all positive and the family has every expectation for a full recovery. The Winters wish to express their admiration and gratitude for Gov. Winter’s caregivers at UMMC.”

Winter, 93, widely considered one of Mississippi’s most progressive governors, was still in intensive care and remained sedated Sunday afternoon.

Winter, an avid walker, suffered a concussion when he slipped and fell on the ice on his northeast Jackson driveway, headed out for a walk.
