This week in headlines across the state of Mississippi:

• After Mississippi State University and Mississippi University for Women removed the state flag, Delta State University is the only one of eight public institutions of higher learning in the state to continue flying the Mississippi flag.

•  In a bold redevelopment gamble, Greenville has broken ground on a $9.1 million hotel development in a downtown district that has storefronts that have been empty for more than 20 years.

• Mississippi Department of Transportation is under the microscope from the tax and budget study groups set up by Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves and House Speaker Philip Gunn. The legislators will take a close look at how the agency spends its $1 billion budget.
